About Me
I first learned how to crochet when I was pretty young…maybe ten or eleven. It certainly wasn’t my first hobby, and at the time, I was much more interested in sewing and cross stitching rather than trying to master the fine art of tension.
I picked up crochet again in high school when a friend and I decided to make blankets. The original plan was to make blankets large enough for our beds. Mine never made it past baby blanket size and was promptly shipped off to my baby cousin.
For the second time, crochet slipped into the background as I made my way through college and began my career, and didn’t pick it up again until two and a half years ago. I was getting ready for my wedding and two out of my three bridesmaids were pregnant. As an avid seamstress and costumer by this time, I decided to make their dresses, but I also wanted something special to give them for their soon-to-be new arrivals.
Amazingly, it all came back to me pretty quickly. Plus, I discovered that I could read patterns. This opened up a whole new world to me. Not only did this mean I could make much more intricate and interesting baby blankets, but I could actually make garments! I started with simple things like caps and scarves, and soon graduated to fingerless mitts, tops, and sweaters.
Of course, around this time, I also began to realize that there were a lot of really fantastic sweater patterns out there…to knit. Now, I’m not one of these snooty crocheters who feels the need to perpetuate some imagined antagonism with knitters. I simply loved some of the knitting patterns I was running across on the internet and wanted to add yet another genre of hobby to my already heafty list of crafts.
So, over the past couple of seasons I have been slowly teaching myself how to knit. While it is still a laborious process for me, I’m enjoying it and am pleased with what I have been able to accomplish.

Hey Sue Ellen! Thanks for checking out this new blog of mine. I admire you so much…I tried spinning once and realized that it really does take some serious skills. I’m still pretty new to knitting, too, but have really found the website knittinghelp.com to be really useful. Every time I come across a stitch I’m unfamiliar with, I check there first. For the Herringbone rib socks, I really didn’t need to know a whole lot of stitches–knit, perl, yarn over, knit 2 together, and slip-slip-knit–all of which you can see demonstrated on knittinghelp.com.
Hope that helps, and thank you so much for reading.
Teresa
