Not what I expected

So, I’ve been reading I Am Legend. It was one of the very few horror movies K has taken me to that actually interested me. Yes, it is still very scary, but it also has an interesting plot. My interest in the book was further peeked when I read a brief summary in 501 Must-Read Books. So, when I stumbled upon a copy in B&N (how did that happen?), I picked it up and started reading right away.

It isn’t at all like the movie, but still a very good book (and thankfully, not nearly as frightening). What bothered me, wasn’t the story, but the fact that it only comprises half of the volume I purchased. Now, it doesn’t bother me at all when publishers include an author’s short stories with a shorter novel, but I sort of like to know what I’m buying. Most of such books indicate this in the title; for example, the book Ethan Frome and Other Short Fiction is currently sitting on my desk. Not only does my copy of I Am Legend not indicate the presence of other “short fiction” in the title, the book cover–front nor back–also does not have any such indication. Truly, if I had known the book had more than just what I wanted to read, I might have tried to find a different copy. I mean, I probably could have found a used copy with just the novel itself for just a fraction of the price I paid at B&N for a book that I’ll only read half of.

In other news, I actually did a little sewing last night. Not a whole lot ’cause I was dead tired, but at least it was something. Plus, I finally ironed one of K’s work shirts that has been sitting on the cutting table for over a month. While I had the iron on, I figured I would press and stitch the hem of one of the flounces, which is exactly what I did–nothing more, nothing less.

Thankfully, I finally got a bit more sleep last night, so hopefully this evening I’ll have enough energy for two more hems and the gym. Or, at least one hem and the gym. Actually, I’ll be happy if I just have energy for the gym.

Oh, and can I just say that I am SOOOOO loving working with silk taffeta. Yum, yum, yum. It presses like a dream. It sews up without puckering, twisting, or going wonky. It has substantial drape but is as light as air. And, when my hands aren’t too dry and chapped, the fabric is so incredibly soft. The only thing I’m worrying a little about is wrinkling. I’m definitely going to want to bring my iron with me to the con. Then, once I’m pressed and dressed, I’m not going to be able to sit down. :( Hopefully, the trimmings on the skirt and the fit of the bodice will work against too much wrinkling, but I’ll still need to be careful.
