The Surge Continues

No, I haven’t decided to go all political on you.  I leave that to K.  I mean my sewing motivation.  I actually got done what I had planned to do AND did the dishes.  Go me!  The skirt looks fabulous with the bottom flounce on, which helps motivate me even more to get it finished.  I don’t think I’ll have time to work on it tonight, but K has another meeting tomorrow, so I should be able to attach the second flounce then.  The top flounce and the waistband will have to wait until I have shoes so that the skirt ends up the right length.  That means that once the middle flounce is on, I can turn my attention to the bodice.

I’m still reading, too.  I’m in the middle of Jane Eyre, but as usually happens, I don’t get as much reading done when I’m focusing on my other hobbies.  At least at work my CAHSEE prep. class has now converted into a silent reading class; the sophomores took the exam earlier this month, so the prep. work is done until next year when they have another opportunity to take it.  So, that’s half an hour, guaranteed, that I get to read each day…well, probably more like twenty minutes since I have to take roll and then occasionally pause from my reading to make sure the students are also reading.

I’m still crocheting, but none of those projects right now are anything numbingly mindless that I can work on in front of the TV or on BART.  I did pick up my quilted petticoat the other day and decided that I was certifiably insane when I conceived it.  Either I should have done the quilting by machine or I should have used silk.  I don’t know why I’m putting this much work into a cotton petticoat.  Well, okay, it will look fabulous, but I still feel a little crazy, and I know that this project really will drive me insane before I finish it.  I at least had the revelation that I don’t need to have these perfectly even, dainty little stitches.  Anyone who looks that closely is close enough to be kicked for any kind of criticism!  So, hopefully the stitching will go a bit faster now that I’m not bent on competition level quilting accuracy. :)
