Exhausted
What a whirlwind last night was…
I got home early and was going to get right to work, but my Costume College class registration packet had arrived, so I had to get that filled out and back in the mail right away. That took a while to look through all the limited classes and select and rank my four choices. Then, I had to run over to the post office to drop it into the mail.
After that, I really wanted to get my Japanese maple into the ground. It hasn’t been doing well outside, stuck in that tiny little plastic container they come in. It just can’t keep enough moisture once it is out in the sun. Plus, I wasn’t sure that K would remember to water it while I’m gone over the weekend. The only solution was to get it planted so that neither of us have to worry about it. So, I dug the hole and got it planted and watered. Now, it will either take it or won’t.
Next, it was on to dying my hair. I figured that would be good to do next because while I was waiting for the color to develop, I could work on my wig. Didn’t realize that once I heat up the curl on the curling iron, it takes forever to cool down, even on the lowest settings. So, I only got one curl done satisfactorily. But, at least I know what I’m doing now and the rest should go a mite faster.
K got home just as I was finishing up my hair and wanted to go out to dinner. Since I won’t see him much this weekend, I thought that was a good idea, but that took a good hour and a half chunk out of my evening. It was nice though. While we were out, we were talking about his planned trip up to Reno. He was going to go visit a friend this weekend, since I’ll be gone, but he didn’t realize exactly how much of a road trip it was going to be. Once I told him it was going to take three and a half to four hours, especially with the weekend traffic, he decided that he’ll just hold off on that trip until I can help him with the driving.
Anyway, once we got home, I threw all my costumes for the weekend into a suitcase and a canvas bag and got back in the car to head down to the hotel. Since the traffic had died down by then, it only took half an hour to get there. I got checked in, took two loads of stuff up to the room, hit the con check in desk to get my name tag and info packet, stopped by the exhibit to see how they were doing and say hi, then got back in the car and drove home.
But that wasn’t the end of my night, even though it was just after ten by the time I got home.
I got the hook and eye put on my skirt. Flipped the bodice inside out and put it on my dress form. Flipped the skirt inside out, also, and put it on the dress form. I got the front and sides lined up and pinned, then whip-stitched the skirt to the bodice lining. So, aside from the bows and the wig, this project is done! Yay!
I’ll be doing the bows during my prep period today. The wig I’ll probably work on tonight once I’m at the hotel and before going to the social.
But, before I leave for the hotel, I must:
Make a modesty placket, because I’ve gained a little weight since starting the bodice.
Finish packing.
Make dinner.
Clean the bunny cage.
I think that’s it. Everything else can be done at the con as long as I make time in between having fun.
