Sweet Relief

It was so nice to go home last night and be able to do anything I wanted or needed to do.  I spent about an hour in the back yard, trimming plants and cutting the edges of the grass.  (K does the main mowing, but the weedwacker is my gig.)  I wanted to also start working on a flower bed in the back corner of the yard, but I was too worn out and hungry.  It felt good to get something other than sewing accomplished.  I still have a lot of yard work left to do (our climbing flower bushes along the fence are seriously growing through the fence into our neighbor’s yard right now), but I think it will be best to break it down into manageable chunks.

I would still like to start working on a sewing project, though.  I need to get an S-bend corset made for a project I’m going to work on during the summer.  A friend of mine loaned me the pattern, since I can’t find my copy, and I’d like to get that back to her before it gets lost in the abyss of my sewing room, or worse yet, really gets lost as I move my sewing room to the soon-to-be-completed studio.  Once the corset is mostly done, I think I might attempt a quick bustle dress.  We’ll have to see, though.  The event is June 1, so I’d only have a month to make the bustle, a petticoat, bodice, skirt, and overskirt.  Not much time considering the speed at which I’ve been sewing lately.  I suppose I could save some time if I did a natural form dress instead.  I think I still have a natural form petticoat, so all I’d need to make would be the skirt, bodice, and overskirt.  Hmmmm.  I’m liking the sound of that.  Plus, I love, love, love, love, love natural form.  Bustle is impressive, but the natural form is just more me.  Oh, and while I’m thinking of it, I think I’ll drop by my parents house and borrow the serger.  My folks are out of town for two weeks on a cruise, so mom won’t miss it.

I’ve got a busy weekend ahead of me, though.  Friday afternoon is my interview.  Friday night my sister-in-law is having an “emancipation” party to celebrate the finalization of her divorce.  Saturday night K has a concert and the a work-related thing, and I have prom to chaperon.  (When I signed up for that, I didn’t realize that K would not be able to come with me.  If I’d known that, I wouldn’t have volunteered, since it’s in a part of the city I’m not familiar with and is not BART accessible.  At this point, I’m wishing I could skip both my sister’s party and prom and just stay home to work on a project that is entirely my own.

Congrats on the award! You all looked so great!
Now that summer is almost here, we would have such great fun sewing.
I’m still in the 18th C this year and intend to remain put till at least next year this time.
Bustles are great but you always look so super well in natural form though. *Heart* natural form!
    Good luck w/the interview!
p.s. ditto on the garden thing. It’s relaxing and rewarding to see the little seedlings finally show up as plants. :)
