Ah, the weekends.
Yet another fabulous weekend, making it difficult to go back to work.
On Saturday, my brothers and Barbara came over for a BBQ. The morning got off to a bit of a rough start, as K and I had a lot of stuff to do before they came over, but we had a lot of fun the rest of the day. Sunday we got to sleep in a bit and then headed out to have Mothers’ Day lunch with K’s family. We had a nice lunch and then went home and just relaxed. We even both took a short nap. Oh, and we managed to get gym workouts in both days AND on Friday. Impressive, no?
I spent a series of large chunks of time teaching myself to knit this weekend. I wanted my first project to be something I’d actually use, so I found a fairly simply handbag to make. Of course, I started and pulled it apart at least half a dozen times before finally getting the hang of it. Even with the iteration I’m on I’ve made a couple of mistakes here and there, though I’ve managed to figure out how to compensate for them. I’m also a bit worried now that I’ve started that I won’t have enough yarn to complete it. Oh, well. I’ll figure it out as I go along and even if I can’t finish it, it has given me good experience. So far, though, I’m not enjoying knitting as much as crochet. I suppose it’s because crochet comes so naturally to me now that I can do it almost without thinking. Knitting, at this point, takes a whole lot of concentration, and even then I still screw up sometimes. I think what will keep me going with knitting, though, are all the cool patterns that are out there for knitting. I just can’t find as much stuff that I like in crochet patterns. I’ve already found a knit cardigan pattern that I absolutely must make…once I get the hang of this, that is.
Unfortunately, I was so wrapped up in the knitting that I didn’t get any sewing done this weekend. I kind of have the excuse that I didn’t have a whole lot of extended periods of time to do that sort of thing, but I really could have done a few things here and there. The good news is that K has meetings for the next couple of days, so I’ll be able to get some work done if I put my mind to it. I also have a kitchen table that that got cleared off this weekend, so I can use the larger surface for cutting out the big skirt pieces. I really need to get some stuff cut out tonight; I’ve got sewing buddies coming over and don’t want to be hogging the table while they are there. So, the plan for tonight is as follows:
1. Make dinner.
2. Pleat linen fabric for blouse.
3. Cut out blouse fabric and lining.
4. Cut out underskirt
5. Cut out overskirt.
6. Mark pattern for bodice. (I just want to get it marked so that I can then do some embroidery before cutting the pieces out.)
It’s probably too much to actually get through, but if I get at least 1-4 done I should be in a good position for tomorrow. That will give me the blouse I can start assembling and the underskirt if I get tired of the blouse.
