OH, and a Craft Update

  

I forgot to mention all my recent craftiness. I’m spending more time reading and crocheting than costuming these days. I’m still trying to spend some time sewing, but it has certainly taken a back seat. Part of the problem is the mess in my sewing room, and the sort of being in between sewing rooms issue. The majority of my stuff is out in the studio now, but I feel bad spending time sewing when I really need to get things organized and clean. I’m hoping to get a new corset made up pretty soon, though, so maybe that will light a fire under my butt.

The crochet thing might be going someplace, though. I recently received an offer to go in with a few other people in a business venture, selling Victorian costume accessories online. One woman will sell the bonnets she makes, and another jewelry, while I can sell my crocheted items, such as the collars I’ve been toying around with. It is an exciting prospect, though it won’t ever be a “day job.” I simply won’t be able to charge enough to compensate for my time, but it will be a nice way to supplement my income with a task I actually enjoy. So, I’m currently in the middle of two projects–a new collar and a miser’s purse.

As for my book hobby, I’m on a roll. I’m trying to read three of the books that have been nominated for the California Young Reader Medal, since some of my students are reading them, but the deadline is this coming week. I’ve made it through one and I’m halfway through another, but I think I’d have to drop everything to finish the third by the end of the week. Not going to happen, but I may manage to finish it by the end of the month, even though I’m also trying to finish a book a colleague lent me. (I love it when people I know lend me books they think I’ll like, but I don’t like that I then feel like it has to be the very next book I read. Whenever I lend a book to someone, I make sure they know that it doesn’t matter when I get it back…keep it for a couple years if you like.)
